Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction – MI)
Heart attacks can be sudden and intense or start slowly with mild pain or discomfort. Too often people suffering from a heart attack are not sure what is wrong with them and wait too long to get help. Signs of a heart attack can be:
- -Chest discomfort (pressure, squeezing, fullness, and/or pain)
- -Discomfort in other areas of the upper body (pain or discomfort in one or both arms, neck, back and/or jaw)
- -Shortness of breath (with or without chest discomfort)
- -Other signs (breaking out into a cold sweat, nausea/vomiting, and/or lightheadedness)
If you experience any of these signs, call 9-1-1. Time is crucial, do not wait. Even if you are unsure whether or not it is a heart attack, have it checked out.
